Why was this news?

Okay, one last thing before this forum goes away.

Why is it news when Michelle Bachman accidentally says "high employment" when she obviously meant "high unemployment"? News people misuse the word "ironic" all the time and they don't do stories about themselves flubbing their newscasts. A national news network put "JUDGEMENT DAY" on the screen about Amanda Knox yesterday but I didn't see any news stories about misspelling judgment. All of us have met people who think we enjoy publicizing other people's mistakes while letting our own go. What could we do to change that perception? Using the dictionary to check spellings and learning the difference between irony and coincidence won't go all the way. But those who do stories on other people flubbing their lines ought to make sure they're not butchering the language themselves.
