Peoria Station Announces New Anchor

WEEK-TV in Peoria has chosen a Colorado broadcaster to replace longtime anchor Tom McIntyre.  Tyler Lopez will anchor the 6pm and 10pm newscasts on the NBC affiliate beginning in August.
Lopez has been fill-in anchor and reporter for KMGH-TV in Denver for 10 years, and was at Denver station KDVR and KOAA in Colorado Springs before that.
News Director Greg Schieferstein says Lopez has a history of success. “Tyler is a respected and passionate journalist who connects with viewers.  He’s trustworthy and a person of character.”  Schieferstein was on a panel of News Directors at the Spring INBA Convention in Normal, where he also reviewed work for student journalists.
Lopez has been honored with Emmy Awards for best Morning Newscast,  as well as awards for Spot News and Live News reporting.  His community involvement includes serving as a board member for a home that helps abused children, and volunteering as an assistant high school basketball coach.
His wife grew up in Metamora, near Peoria, .“My family and I feel so incredibly fortunate to have this opportunity to make Central Illinois home.  For my wife,  this is a homecoming,” Lopez said in a station news release issued Wednesday.  His co-anchor, Libby Allison, was hired last spring after working in Charlottesville, Virginia for 5 years.  She grew up in Galesburg, so the Peoria job was a homecoming for her as well.
